How I Keep Moving Even With No Time

Why I Need Punchier Faster Workouts

Just the other day, I was all geared up for a workout.

Shoes laced up, water bottle filled, and weights lined up.

I took a deep breath, ready to dive in, and then… cue the baby’s cry.

Workout aborted.

That’s my new normal now- the intent to exercise is there, but so is my baby girl.

And she understandably has no idea that she’s getting into my fitness schedule.

Introducing My 5-Minute Routines

Since I’m likely going to be interrupted, I’ve come up with a new strategy.

5-Minute movements.

I set my timer, I use the clothes that I’m already wearing. And then I focus on one group of muscles for that time.

These quick bursts allow me to flex my muscles without the fear of leaving my partner to handle baby duties solo.

And if the baby starts fussing, I’m okay with telling her (and myself): “only 5 more minutes”

Short Workouts Actually Work

My improvised routine isn’t just a makeshift solution; it’s backed by science.

Studies suggest that spreading 5-minute exercise intervals throughout your day can yield significant health benefits.

It’s far better than what most of us do — sitting for hours on end.

Every bit of movement counts.

And these mini workouts can cumulatively boost your energy levels and metabolism.

5-Minute Habit: Building Daily Consistency

For me, the guilt of taking time for myself with a newborn at home has been real.

I feel bad if I leave the house for a walk, or if I take a whole morning to do work.

So these 5-minute windows are a guilt-free sweet spot.

They’re long enough to get my heart rate up but short enough that I’m still available for my family.

It’s a compromise that balances self-care with my commitment to being a supportive partner and parent.

Long-Term Gains from Short Daily Exercises

Here’s my big tip here: variety is your best friend.

Use each 5-minute burst as an opportunity to challenge different muscle groups and energy systems.

By mixing it up — a quick yoga flow, a brisk walk, some bodyweight exercises — you’re not just combating the sedentary lifestyle, you’re also paving the way for a well-rounded fitness regimen.

One that works no matter how busy you are.
